The Bond is a collaborative work of music, poetry, dance, and film — reflections of love and loss.
The project began when author, Sonia Usatch-Kuhn, chanting in meditation, heard a persistent soulful melody. Inspired, she contacted composer Michael Pelz-Sherman, who suggested that she hum the tune into his voice mail. The lyrics, as well, came to her during meditation. Michael created a haunting interlude for strings, and contacted choreographer Willie Hinton, who created a beautiful piece of dance to further enhance expression of the song through movement. Guitarist Ed Stephenson was brought in to provide the perfect guitar accompaniment, and vocalist Rhonda Robichaux gave life to the song with her soulful voice.
We engaged filmmaker Jaqui OtaƱo to capture the performance and bring it to the screen.
The song tells the story of two lovers whose bond is tragically ended. It is a story that we all must face at some point. Grief, as it is said, is the price we pay for love.
We hope you enjoy The Bond.
